Wildlife Walks

The Garden is fortunate to have the support of local naturalist, Peter Shaw. Peter has conducted several walks in previous years for garden visitors. This year the focus is on schools and environmental or wildlife oriented societies. If you would like to bring a party for a fascinating tour of the various habitats on site, please contact Keith on 07791 011347.

Peter Shaw grew up in the rural East Riding of Yorkshire and from an early age took an interest in wildlife that has stayed with him all his life. As a teenager, he worked on a farm before the radical changes to agricultural practices that have so disturbed the balance of the environment in the last 60 years. For much of his adult life he has lived in large cities but has travelled widely in the British Isles and beyond, grasping every opportunity to walk and observe at first-hand the wildlife in the localities he has visited. For the past six years he has lived in Dartmouth.

Peter claims to be "no David Attenborough", but he is a practised observer and particularly enthusiastic about creatures that fly, especially birds, butterflies and dragonflies. Fast Rabbit Farm has interesting habitats for all three and he will guide visitors to the best places for seeing the rich and complex wildlife that inhabits the garden. His walks last from 90 minutes to 2 hours and are taken at a gentle pace with the emphasis on looking carefully to enjoy all the garden's delights.

Renowned photographer becomes Friend of Fast Rabbit Farm Garden

Maureen Douglas Green has joined the list of the garden's admirers and taken many striking photographs which are being added to the gallery section of this site. Maureen is a renowned professional photographer who already has a strong reputation for botanical photography and has contributed at several gardens including The Garden House at Yelverton. Maureen captures, plants wildlife and other visual treats in a striking and sometimes dramatic way. A big welcome to Maureen and partner Richard from the Fast Rabbit team.
